Are Automatic WordPress Updates Suitable For My Website?

The answer is strictly NO. Why? Because automatic updates of WordPress involve a risk of incompatibilities and your website may not work anymore! Please keep in mind that incompatibilities after WordPress updates could happen to any other website, with no exception. There are two main factors that put you at risk of incompatibilities: the theme of the website itself and the installed add-ons. We have disabled automatic updates to avoid that in case of incompatibilities this will break your website.

If you think that you have to do an update to a newer version of WordPress, the first thing is to make a full backup of your website, including the database. Before you start making changes to your site, you need a backup and a restore tool. We can’t mention often enough about how important a backup of your site is. If things go wrong with an update, then you can just simply restore your site and nothing is happening. Please note that backing up the site is only one part of the deal. Being able to restore it without any issues is more important. Before updating the site to a new version we recommend using a Staging Tool. A staging tool helps you create a clone site, where you can experiment with updates and this will not affect your live website in any way. When you are happy with the updates and you have checked the functionality of your website, you can merge it with your live site.
